First of all, let me say, I am at the lake...so I hope someone, anyone, is reading this, otherwise, I'm not too sure why I'm typing it! With a campfire calling to me, as well as a tired baby who needs to be put to bed, I'll be keeping this short and sweet.
My first week with Rod was great! The focus of this week was on being present and standing postures. The poses covered in the 5 different practices for the week were:
-Tadasana (Mountain Pose)
-Adho Mukha Svanasana (Down Dog)
-Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend)
-Trikonasana (Triangle)
-Virabhadrasana...
Actually the baby is too tired for me to type these all out...let it be suffice to say the standing postures were covered.
What stood out the most for me during the week's practices was the amount of Uttanasanas (Standing Forward Bends) included. Pretty well much after each standing posture, Rodney would follow suit with a forward bend. Forward bends are in general very soothing to the nervous system, and restorative after a strong practice. Although the practices outlined were all quite intense from the amount of standing postures preformed and the length of time they were held, I never felt exhausted or deflated after a sequence. I really enjoyed this practice and felt reconnected to my feet, in particular the center of my arch and inside, top of my heel. Rodney reminded me to ground most of my weight in this part of my foot, which I felt really helpful and re-enlightening...as for the last while I had been overly focused on my big toe and outside heel.
One of the effects I experienced after this first week of practice was a lot of flexibility regained in my hamstrings, which had felt significantly tightened after my pregnancy with Isla.
Speaking of Isla, she has had it, as has Johan (my eldest) who would much rather be at the campfire then bouncing his baby sister for me while I type!
One last thing, as this has been a fast hash out of a blog, please feel free to ignore all typos.
This week I'll be following Rod's suggestion of Sun Salutation sequences and a more fluid, breath focused practice.
Happy Practicing,
Jenelle
