What a day, filled with highs and lows...
First to the highs, because those stand out the most:
This morning I enjoyed a calming bike ride through the lazy streets of Brunswick Heads, past the Ocean and back home. I followed the bike ride with a bit of yoga, a Mexican pie for lunch and a visit with a local doctor, Marc Heyning, our new family doctor here in Brunswick Heads (lovely man, originally from the U.S.). At the appointment I had a pleasant surprise: the indescribable joy of listening to my baby's strong, thumping heart beat for the first time. WOW!
From here I picked up a hot drink out (ok...it was coffee, I'm sure that little heart beat was thumping a bit faster after that....), and took off in our newly purchased Toyota Ute to pick up the boys from school. The sun was shinning and I had remembered to throw their swimmers and boogie boards in the back of the Ute, so I was excited to share the news with them both about hitting the beach after school, and about the baby's heart beat.
Unfortunately, upon backing out of my parking spot at the school...with the boys safely buckled up in the back, I reared right into a lovely little black car....SHIT! The good news is: a) no one was hurt, b) we have insurance (stating the obvious really), and c) that was the lowest part of my day. The lady who's cute little black car I had just hit, was very kind about it all, and we simply swapped details and carried on with our day. That's the first time I've ever hit a car...and felt a little frustrated as I am just learning to drive shift or stick with my left hand as opposed to with my right, and on the other side of the road...maybe I should have had a bit more practice....anyhow, moving along.
The boys and I hit the beach and enjoyed the last few rays of deliciously warm sun, as we watched heavy, dark clouds roll into the bay from sea. The estuary's banks were loaded with fisherman trying their luck for a fresh and tasty dinner of Brime and/or Cod, many of which we watched pull in their wriggly catch. The boys are as keen as mustard to purchase some fishing gear and have a go at bringing home the bacon...or the brime in this case.
We came home to find Lindsay finished work, and I got busy making a quick bite for dinner. We had sliced, marinated, organic beef rump steak on rye sourdough, topped with farmer's market fresh tomatoes and melted mozzarella cheese. The steak melts were served with a side of mustard pickels and spicy tomatoe relish, as well as a blue cheese, pepitas, beets and granny smith apple salad, dressed with local lime and chilli infused macadamia oil and white wine vinegar...delicious, I don't mind saying myself. Johan and I speculated that the blue cheese was really much more similar to a brie cheese, and agreed that I should talk to the cheese maker at the market on Friday to confirm that they hadn't mislabeled the ingredient... anyhow, it was still delicious.
This weekend at Mullumbimby we have a Bush Dance at the boys new school to take part in. We'll also be wandering down to the local market, on the estuary banks in Bruns, on Saturday, which is guaranteed to be filled with all sorts of treasures, yummy food and good music (maybe even some fishing gear).
Tomorrow morning I will attend my first Pregnancy Yoga Class, at Yoga Peace in Mullumbimby. I am hopeful to meet a few women to cultivate new friendships with. I am really missing my friends back in Regina....
Anyhow, hope you enjoyed the update...if anyone ever reads these posts :-)
Take care,
Jenelle
