Above is a link to a Ted talk given by Jonathan Haidt. I have listened to several Ted talks over the last few days, by Tony Robbins, Mark Selligman and this one by Jonathan Haidt. Human beings are incredibly inspiring, whether it is when they shine their brightest lights or wear their heaviest, darkest cloaks, they inspire me to think, wonder, grow and shine brightly as well. They inspire me to forgive, give thanks and love. Each one of the talks I have listened to has touched on concepts and topics I have been rolling around my mind and being. It is empowering to realize that great and simple minds (simple being my own:-) ) are investigating similar thought threads. These shared thoughts and ideas motivate me to continue to learn, and they thrill me as I imagine thought momentum picking up and changing our world. So many of us are bending thoughts to create rainbow spectrums, so many of us are inspired to be the change in the world. One of Jonathan's central ideas shared was the evolutionary concept that by placing us all in the same boat, selfish tendencies dissolve as we all rely on each other to pull through. I find this concept both inspiring and limiting, I mean when have any of us ever really been in a different boat from one another? It is only our narrowed, limited sense of separation, our sense of disconnect from the other(s) that foster pathological practices and concepts. With the atmosphere the boundary of our greater biosphere, our home, and each one of us a tiny, yet purposeful and beautiful cell populating the face of our Earth, we all make a difference for better or worse and we are and have always been all in it together: one boat, one Earth, one home, one love:-). In my opinion this does not mean that we don't self-love, or self-nurture, because we are all a fractal of this Earth: we all embody a home with a biosphere boundary (our skin and digestive tract) that requires maintenance, mindfulness, love and care. I believe by genuinely starting with yourself, filling your own cup and loving yourself for who you are, how you are, what you have to give and what you need to live (physically, mentally, and spiritually), that you will truly embody the change the world needs. Once your own cup is full it'll be much easier to serve and unconditionally love others.
Thank you Jonathan Haidt, Tony Robbins and Mark Selligman for your inspiring, insightful, clear and motivating talks, your talks are like fuel to the fire that helps me to shine my light brightly as well.
